About the Role
This position is responsible for the leadership and development of nutritional programs for over 350 student-athletes, including design, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition and health programs to maximize athletic performance and the overall well-being of the whole person. The Director of Sports Nutrition will assist in providing students with an exceptional student-athlete experience and ensure the nutrition department operates with integrity and a student-athlete focus.
Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and manage effective programs to maximize the nutritional health and sports performance of all student-athletes.
- Develop and provide strategies that enhance student-athlete performance, reduce the risk of fatigue and injury, and increase motivation for healthy nutritional habits.
- Collaborate with the mental health team to provide psychoeducation to student-athletes and coaches.
- Conduct individual sessions, feedback assessments, and comprehensive nutrition-focused evaluations for both student-athletes and teams.
- Maintain required certifications.
- Collaborate with the Integrated Healthcare Team to support a holistic model and enhance the student-athlete experience.
- Ensure documentation and compliance with dietary plans, assessments, and progress.
- Provide brief interventions and counseling to address health and wellness issues, including referrals to professionals for confidential and sensitive matters.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data to assist in designing plans and strategies.
- Identify and offer solutions to complex problems impacting student-athlete and team performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or a related field.
- Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and licensed dietitian (per state requirements).
- Previous experience working in collegiate or professional sports.
Skills
- Ability to provide ideas, strategies, and leadership to implement change and ensure effective stakeholder collaboration.
- Knowledge of eating disorders and ability to effectively implement interventions to reduce symptoms.
- Support and lead initiatives that enhance student-athlete performance, retention, and lifelong success.
Physical Requirements
Sedentary Work: Capable of exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
