About the Role
NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, and student-centered leader to serve as the Assistant Director of Member Services and Student Employment. The ideal candidate will empower both student and professional staff to cultivate world-class wellness and recreation programs, services, and facilities that enrich the student experience. This role provides strategic leadership for Wellness and Recreation member services, point-of-sale (POS) and facility access software, and the department-wide student employment program. The Assistant Director will also identify and develop alternative revenue streams while adding value to the student experience through special events and programming.
Responsibilities
- Staff Supervision and Human Resource Management
- Provide strategic leadership, supervision, and performance management for the Coordinator of Member Services and the Student Employment Specialist.
- Indirectly oversee approximately 120 student staff, ensuring high-level customer service to students and members.
- Manage the comprehensive student employment program, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and training for approximately 650 student staff annually.
- Evaluate current HR workflows to identify efficiencies, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and maintain comprehensive training materials.
- Oversee complex department-wide timekeeping and payroll processes to ensure data integrity and deadline compliance.
- Spearhead student staff appreciation initiatives, including Student Employee Appreciation Week, university Wellness Days, and the annual end-of-year awards ceremony for over 250 attendees.
- Membership Growth and Marketing
- Drive strategic growth, forecasting, and optimization of Wellness and Recreation Member Services, overseeing annual membership and auxiliary revenues exceeding $900k.
- Design, implement, and evaluate recruitment and retention strategies for alumni, faculty, staff, and external community segments.
- Build relationships with Centennial Campus affiliates and organize special events to boost member satisfaction.
- Develop high-impact marketing materials, targeted digital promotions, programmatic tours, and data-backed incentives to maximize conversion rates.
- Revenue Generation and Partnerships
- Identify and cultivate alternate revenue streams, including specialized member events, paid programming, and creative retail or facility rentals.
- Assist with the design and execution of strategic marketing partnership/sponsorship programs.
- Collaborate with external partners to maximize marketing packages and fundraising opportunities.
- Manage fiscal budgets for Member Services, the student staff training program, and the student professional development fund.
- Strategic Leadership and Systems Administration
- Provide leadership for member services, POS and facility access software, and the student employment program by implementing goals and processes.
- Provide strategic direction for the maintenance, upkeep, and configuration of InnoSoft Fusion (POS and facility access software) and FusionGO (mobile application).
- Ensure compliance with University, State, and Federal regulations, as well as departmental requirements.
- Lead the Wellness and Recreation student training and development work team, as well as the Fusion department work team.
- Serve on the Wellness and Recreation assessment work team; design satisfaction surveys and develop data-driven recommendations.
- Assist with all required departmental functions and university-wide initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, recreation, or a related field, plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of national trends and best practices in member services and student employment.
- Proven ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative, critical thinking, and creativity.
- Ability to collaborate, build partnerships, and contribute effectively in a fast-paced, results-oriented team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Passion for promoting healthy and active lifestyles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education administration, recreation, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience leading collegiate recreation member services or student staff training programs.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams and managing professional staff.

Schedule
Monday - Friday; 9:00am - 6:00pm; regular evening and weekend hours.
