Assistant Director, Digital Content
This role is a versatile content development and digital media/publishing specialist who provides expertise and support for digital communications efforts that advance Brown’s fundraising and alumni engagement priorities.
About the role
The Assistant Director, Digital Content plans, writes, edits, and produces copy, graphics, and multimedia for multiple channels—primarily social media, web articles, and other projects—ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and messaging. This role leads the creation of an editorial calendar for Advancement’s social media channels, manages production and publishing workflows, and measures performance to continually improve digital engagement efforts, including paid social advertising.
Reporting to the Director, Content Strategy and Planning, this position collaborates with content creators, strategists, designers, videographers, and division staff to execute projects and support priority University initiatives. The role also provides editorial support for collateral and communications as needed, contributing creativity and expertise to Division projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute content for digital communications, including social media, web articles, and multimedia, ensuring relevance and engagement for target audiences.
- Lead the creation and management of an editorial calendar for Advancement’s social media channels, aligning content with Division goals.
- Manage production, publishing, and maintenance workflows for content across multiple social media platforms.
- Measure and analyze social media performance, including paid advertising, to refine and improve communications strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams, including designers, videographers, and project managers, to define and execute projects.
- Participate in University working groups to ensure content coordination and amplification across channels.
- Provide editorial support for collateral and communications, including consultation on channel strategies to meet Division goals.
- Produce digital media, including photography and short-form video, using native platform apps and editing tools.
- Apply institutional brand and editorial style guidelines consistently.
- Ensure compliance with laws governing privacy, copyright, fair use, and intellectual property.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in media, communications, and/or marketing.
Skills
- Proficiency with team collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Slack, ClickUp).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) and graphic design.
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS, SEO, and web UX/UI best practices.
- Experience with social media, web, and email platforms, including content management systems.
- Ability to measure, analyze, and report on social media data analytics using relevant tools.
- Familiarity with current and emerging social media platforms, content trends, and best practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing content for social media and editorial channels, including writing, digital photography, and video reels.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent proofreading and storytelling abilities.
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Constant Contact, or similar products.
- Ability to manage projects involving multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and assets.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving to align content with program goals.
- Strong visual aesthetic and experience preparing images for digital publication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an advancement or fundraising setting.
- Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising communications.
