Assistant Customer Experience Manager

Responsibilities

  • Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer‑focused behavior with associates.
  • Greets customers, answers questions, and resolves concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and implements changes to ensure progress.
  • Assists the Customer Experience Manager in overseeing all aspects of front‑end operations and performs the manager’s duties in their absence.
  • Assumes complete responsibility for total store operations when store management is absent.
  • Enforces cash‑handling controls and security measures to identify and prevent losses.
  • Follows and enforces all company policies and procedures related to front‑end operations, including anti‑money‑laundering, tobacco and alcohol sales, lottery, price accuracy, WIC, etc.
  • Oversees bookkeeping procedures.
  • Assists Customer Experience Associates with change, price checks, voids, refunds, and conducts unannounced cash audits.
  • Supports store management in onboarding and training associates, using the Learning Management System (LMS) and auto‑scheduler to manage availability, headcounts, and schedules.
  • Controls supply costs while maintaining adequate inventory of items such as paper and plastic bags.
  • Directs customer flow through the front end, ensuring sufficient open checkouts, monitoring breaks, and minimizing wait times.
  • Oversees lot attendant service, assists customers with carts and loading groceries, and operates front‑end scanning equipment and registers.
  • Answers phone calls with a polite attitude and makes intercom announcements as needed.
  • Maintains functionality of equipment, hardware, and software; reports issues promptly.
  • Communicates special promotions and sale items to cashiers and generates sales through suggestive selling.
  • Participates in daily store huddles and stays knowledgeable of weekly ads, marketing promotions, and store layout.
  • Ensures safety and sanitation of parking lot, porch, entrance/exit, and checkout area; follows cleaning schedules and OSHA requirements.
  • Disposes of trash properly and keeps cart corrals and parking lot clear.
  • Cooperates with co‑workers and superiors to ensure smooth department and store function; continuously improves job performance.
  • May assist with baling cardboard, receiving and unloading deliveries, and operating power or hand jacks when trained.
  • Uses all provided personal protective equipment (PPE) such as cut‑resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company‑sponsored footwear.
  • May be called upon to assist in other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises all associates within the department.
  • May assume total leadership of the building in the absence of store management.
  • Number of supervised associates varies with store size and management presence.
