About the role

The Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida (UF) seeks qualified applicants for a 12-month tenure-track Assistant Curator of Ichthyology. This position will be filled at the Assistant faculty level in the Florida Museum’s Department of Natural History.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct specimen-based research on fishes
  • Contribute to and make use of the Florida Museum’s extensive and world-renowned fish collection
  • Bolster current strengths in areas such as evolutionary biology, systematics, biodiversity exploration, global change biology, biogeography, and AI and bioinformatics
  • Collaborate across disciplines within the museum and with other faculty and divisions within the University of Florida
  • Mentor and advise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
  • Teach courses in ichthyology and related fields

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field
  • Evidence of excellence in research, as demonstrated through publication record, grant record, or potential to conduct grant-funded research

Qualifications

  • Research and teaching are collections-based
  • Contribute to the museum's goals of understanding, preserving, and interpreting biological and cultural diversity
  • Experience with museum collections and their vision for curating, using, and growing the UF fish collection
  • Experience with teaching, mentorship, and outreach

Skills

  • Ability to conduct specimen-based research on fishes
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with multidisciplinary approaches

Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $90,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a 12-month and tenure-accruing position with the tenure home in the Florida Museum’s Department of Natural History.
