About the Role

Monmouth University is seeking an Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach to support the training, development, and recruitment of student-athletes in the Athletics department. This position involves year-round coaching responsibilities, event planning, travel coordination, and compliance with NCAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a year-round training regimen for student-athletes.
  • Schedule, recruit, and coordinate travel for team members, including arranging meals and transportation.
  • Assist in selecting and ordering equipment for student-athlete and team use.
  • Monitor academic progress for current student-athletes and NCAA Eligibility Center status for prospective recruits.
  • Lead recruiting efforts, including official visits, calls, emails, and weekly outreach to potential student-athletes.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts with the Blue and White Club, the fundraising arm of Monmouth University Athletics.
  • Organize team and individual meetings for student-athletes.
  • Assist in preparing for and managing home cross country and track and field meets, including collegiate and community events.
  • Provide event-specific instruction at practices and meets.
  • Collaborate with strength coaches to create and oversee strength training plans for athletes.
  • Pursue professional development and research into track and field training techniques.
  • Manage a recruiting database using ARMS Software (or future programs) and Admission Office software in compliance with NCAA rules.
  • Create events to foster a championship team culture, promote unity, and ensure academic excellence.
  • Schedule practices in coordination with the Athletic department and coaching staff.
  • Adhere to policies governing the Department of Athletics, the University, and NCAA/CAA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or athletic administrators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three (3) years of coaching experience at the high school or college level in cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field, or four (4) years of collegiate competition in the sport.
  • Demonstrated coaching and recruiting success.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license with no serious violations (Type A) in the past five (5) years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three (3) years.
  • CPR and NCAA recruiting certification must be attained within six months of hire.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs for task completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Understanding of the University’s commitment to both academic and athletic excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • USA Track and Field (USATF) Level I recognition or higher.

$47,000 USD per year
