Assistant Corporation Counsel III - Employment Litigation Division
About the role
The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (ACC) in its Employment Litigation Division. The Employment Litigation Division defends the City of Chicago and public officials against allegations of discrimination as well as other civil rights and employment law violations brought by prospective, current, and former employees. Division ACCs practice in federal court as well as in state court. The Division handles sophisticated and complex litigation matters (including class actions) that involve extensive motion practice, intensive discovery, settlement negotiations, and trials.
Responsibilities
- Maintain own case load
- Try cases
- Draft pleadings
- Draft briefs
- Conduct discovery
- Negotiate settlements
Qualifications
- Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705)
- Good standing with your state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission
Skills
- Litigation experience in federal or state court litigation, in one or more of the following areas: drafting motions for summary judgment, taking and defending depositions, and engaging in ESI discovery
- Experience in relevant practice areas including negotiation and settlement experience
- Exceptional research skills
- Superior writing skills
- Ability to work well with others
- Demonstrated history of exhibiting leadership and initiative on assigned tasks
- Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines
- Demonstrated record of academic excellence
Pay
$88,272 - 154,044 (salary is based on a variety of factors including experience and credentials)
