About the role

This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take on a broad role supporting core accounting, grants, and financial reporting in a collaborative, mission-driven organization. The position combines hands-on accounting, grant reporting, AP review/oversight, and internal customer support.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review Accounts Payable batches prepared by the AP Specialist, ensuring accuracy and proper processing.
  • Manage vendor setup and verification, including validating tax identification numbers and other required vendor information.
  • Support grant accounting and reporting, including preparing budget reports, validating financial activity, and ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in the General Ledger.
  • Coordinate grant billing and drawdowns of grant funds.
  • Work with the Sponsored Projects team and Program Managers on approximately 10–12 individual grants, including federal grants subject to Single Audit requirements as well as non-federal grants.
  • Perform core accounting functions and assist with month-end and other accounting activities as needed.
  • Manipulate, analyze, and organize financial data using Excel.
  • Collaborate with the Staff Accountant, Assistant Treasurer, AP team, external department heads, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Provide responsive, customer-focused support to departments and staff.

Requirements

  • Strong accounting background with experience in core accounting functions.
  • Experience with federal grants, grant accounting, or higher education accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate and analyze financial data.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review and validate financial information.
  • Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to take ownership and get work done.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting professionals and non-financial department leaders.

Pay

$95,000 - $105,000

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, with hours of either 8:00 AM–4:00 PM or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Hybrid schedule: Once established in the role, 2 days remote and 3 days in the office.
