About the role
The Assistant Controller supports the VP of Finance & Accounting by overseeing day-to-day accounting tasks, preparing financial statements, maintaining internal controls, and analyzing financial data. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, manages the month-end close and the General Ledger, collaborates with external auditors, and supervises the accounting team.
Responsibilities
- Maintain working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to ensure compliance
- Oversee and support the Accounting team day-to-day operations by interfacing with individuals within and outside of the organization
- Perform and/or review bank transactions, journal entries, and account reconciliations and analyses
- Investigate errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Manage the month-end close and the General Ledger
- Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and support tax filing and payments
- Maintain internal controls, policies, procedures, and documentation and improve as needed
- Work effectively under tight deadlines in a team environment with a focus on responsiveness
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required; CPA earned or CPA candidate
- 8+ years’ experience in accounting
- Proficiency with Accounting software, especially Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains; Advanced ability with MS Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP
