About the role
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller Consultant to support core accounting operations and financial reporting for a long-term engagement in Southfield, Michigan. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage close activities, strengthen reporting accuracy, and contribute meaningful financial insight in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries while maintaining precise general ledger records and supporting documentation.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations, including cash activity and bank account analysis, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Reconcile customer and supplier accounts to improve accuracy, reduce outstanding issues, and support clean financial records.
- Produce financial statements and analyze performance against budget and forecast, highlighting trends and recommending corrective actions.
- Absess capital spending proposals by developing financial payback analysis and clearly communicating the business value of investments.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles by compiling financial data, validating assumptions, and supporting planning discussions.
- Support internal and external audit activities, regulatory reporting, and adherence to accounting standards, internal controls, and governance requirements.
- Use accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, JD Edwards, and OneStream to manage reporting activities and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and process effectiveness.
Requirements
- 7+ years of accounting or corporate finance experience, including substantial responsibility for general ledger and close processes.
- Strong background in month-end close, financial reporting, and financial statement audit support.
- Experience performing bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analysis with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proven ability to interpret financial results, investigate variances, and provide practical recommendations to leadership.
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks is required; familiarity with JD Edwards and OneStream is preferred.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing company environment is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, regulatory compliance, and standard accounting practices.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage priorities independently in a contract role.
Qualifications
- BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification is preferred but not required.
