About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization. This role assists in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable business insights that support strategic decision-making.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and monitoring internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Coordinate and assist with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with operations and leasing departments to develop and enhance KPI reporting.
- Lead presentations of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analysis, explaining drivers of performance, risks, opportunities, and recommendations in an understandable manner for non-accounting audiences.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes.
- Assist in managing fixed assets, accruals, and other accounting functions.
- Provide leadership to 10+ member accounting team.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased operational efficiency.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA designation preferred or in progress.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems (Yardi preferred).
- Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting financial analyses to non-financial audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Skills
- Experience in real estate or property management.
- Experience in Yardi or similar real estate ERP.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
- Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.

Pay
Salary Range: $125,000 – $150,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
