About the role
Folio Wine is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Finance team by managing the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, inventory accounting, compliance, and internal controls.
Responsibilities
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet analyses
- Aid in preparing internal financial statements, management reporting, and variance analyses
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities
- Manage inventory accounting processes including wine bulk inventory, bottled goods, dry goods, depletion, and COGS analysis
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and production teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting
- Serve as a key accounting resource for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
- Assist with ERP process improvements, reporting enhancements, and system optimization initiatives
- Troubleshoot accounting and reporting issues within Business Central and collaborate with internal teams and external partners as needed
- Support accounting operations through automation and process efficiencies
- Support annual financial audits, tax preparation, and compliance reporting
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable wine industry regulations
- Support documentation and maintenance of internal controls and audit readiness
- Support sales tax, excise tax, and regulatory reporting requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- CPA designation preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in the wine industry
- Strong understanding of inventory and cost accounting
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial systems aptitude
- Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be resourceful and flexible
- Able to balance multiple demands, prioritize tasks, and retain clear focus
- Wine industry compliance and regulatory knowledge
- Multi-entity or distributor/supplier accounting experience
- Experience supporting process improvement and ERP optimization initiatives
