Assistant Controller

About the role
Serve as a key finance leader responsible for manufacturing accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, project accounting, internal controls, and continuous process improvement. Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, Project Management, and executive leadership to provide financial insight for operational excellence and profitable growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate U.S. GAAP financial reporting
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, estimates, and management reporting
- Oversee manufacturing accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, labor and overhead absorption, production variances, scrap, yield, and inventory reserves
- Manage project accounting from contract setup through closeout, including budgets, forecasting, profitability analysis, and change order accounting
- Administer percentage-of-completion revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
- Analyze key manufacturing performance metrics, including labor efficiency, material usage, purchase price variance, inventory turns, gross margins, and operational performance
- Partner with Operations and Engineering to improve plant profitability and support capital investment decisions
- Prepare budgets, financial forecasts, and operational analyses to support business planning
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls while supporting annual external audits
- Lead ERP optimization, automation, and financial process improvement initiatives
- Support software implementations and continuous improvement projects across the Finance organization
- Develop, coach, mentor, and support accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with executive leadership to provide financial insight that supports strategic decision-making
Requirements
- Collaborative finance leader with strong manufacturing accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with five (5) or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least three (3) years supporting manufacturing operations
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Experience with manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing
- Experience with project accounting and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics AX/D365, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation preferred
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is a plus
- Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence tools
- Experience leading ERP implementations or financial process improvement initiatives
- Experience developing and mentoring accounting professionals
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and operational finance
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position working Monday through Friday in Lebanon, Oregon. The role is primarily office-based with regular collaboration throughout ENTEK's manufacturing operations and occasional time spent on the production floor supporting operational initiatives.
