About the role
Aduro Advisors is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team supporting top-tier clients in the Venture Capital & Private Equity space. The role involves managing client relationships, executing on practical technical excellence, and contributing to the growth and development of the team.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for multiple clients, managing workflow and coordination among Aduro team members.
- Set up and run recurring client check-in calls, covering current status, open items, and client updates on upcoming operational needs.
- Respond to ad-hoc client requests in a thoughtful and professional manner, aligned with Aduro processes and industry best practices.
- Reconcile banking transactions, prepare journal entries, and maintain general ledgers using US GAAP in the accounting system (Xero).
- Drive the month-end close process and raise follow-up questions to the Senior Controller, Controller, or client as necessary.
- Reconcile and maintain investment information for all fund investments.
- Prepare and/or review quarterly financial statements, including partners' capital allocations.
- Utilize proprietary investment management database (FundPanel) to send investor correspondence and quarterly reports.
- Update FundPanel for fund activity and investments.
- Coordinate the preparation of audit materials, manage year-end financial statement audit and tax work, and utilize a risk-based approach to delegate tasks and review junior members' work.
- Proactively seek opportunities to assist the Senior Controller and/or Controller, gaining exposure to more complex or higher-risk tasks.
- Identify and pursue training needs to enhance personal growth and development, and coach and guide junior members of the team.
Requirements
- Approximately 3-5 years of experience in the alternative asset industry, with Venture Capital and/or Private Equity experience preferred.
- Experience in external auditing, CPA certification, or MBA is a plus.
- An in-depth understanding of US GAAP and partnership accounting, including complex allocation waterfalls.
- Experience in a client-facing role leading multiple client engagements.
- Natural resourcefulness, drive, and strong problem-solving skills.
- A passion for excellent customer service and attention to detail.
- Able to mentor and coach team members.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems such as Xero or QuickBooks.
