Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for a part-time, benefits-eligible Assistant Coach position in Wrestling. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, our intercollegiate athletics program is a member of the Ivy League and includes 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 NCAA Division I athletes.

About the role

This Third Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in the leadership and development of student-athletes, focusing on teaching athletic skills, fostering character, and contributing to game strategy. The role also involves executing daily program operations, including recruitment coordination, travel arrangements, and scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Coach in teaching athletic skills and developing student-athlete character.
  • Assist with game strategy and player development.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts, including evaluating prospective student-athletes and providing recommendations.
  • Manage daily operations such as travel arrangements and scheduling.
  • Maintain compliance with all University, NCAA, and Ivy League policies and regulations.
  • Report any rules violations to the compliance office.
  • Complete annual NCAA rules education and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (provided at no cost).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 1-2 years of coaching experience, or a minimum of 5 years of direct related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Coaching experience in intercollegiate athletics, professional athletics, elite amateur sport, or a comparable competitive environment.
  • Strong understanding of wrestling rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Knowledge of athlete development principles, including strength, conditioning, and skill progression.
  • Understanding of team dynamics, sportsmanship, and athlete wellness.
  • Ability to instruct athletes effectively in practices, drills, and skill development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to observe, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback to athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the coaching staff and adapt to high-pressure situations.
