Aloha! Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Athletics is seeking an Assistant Coach to support our Swimming team for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a temporary seasonal position with tentative season dates of November 2026 through February 2027. Stipend: $4,578.00.

About the Role

Responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Kamehameha Athletic Sports program, including coaching, instructing students, and performing duties necessary to develop players and teams in alignment with Kamehameha's philosophy of athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of swimming, including rules, skills, tactics, and techniques.
  • Translate sports knowledge to athletes and develop/evaluate their performance and progress.
  • Teach individual and team skills to athletes, focusing on observable outcomes beyond winning/losing.
  • Assist athletes in reaching their full potential while addressing individual needs without compromising the team.
  • Organize and supervise safe, efficient practices and games, utilizing coaching staff effectively.
  • Prepare the team for competitions and conduct yourself professionally as a positive role model.
  • Promote sportsmanship, respect for rules, and teamwork within a values-driven framework.
  • Provide an enjoyable environment and experience for athletes.
  • Handle administrative duties, including disciplinary issues, eligibility checks, records, timesheets, and equipment management.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, media, and the community.
  • Promote the program locally and statewide.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience.
  • National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Fundamentals of Coaching Certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school or collegiate athletic participation.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical activity such as walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying.

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve travel, including to neighbor islands.
  • Conducted in office/school environments and non-standard workplaces.
  • Typically Monday through Friday, but evening and weekend hours are often required.
