About the role

The University of Scranton seeks Assistant Coaches for the Men's and Women's Track & Field programs. This position assists the head coach in managing the day-to-day operations and instruction of student-athletes, adhering to the guidelines, rules, and regulations set forth by the University, Landmark Conference, and the NCAA.

Responsibilities

  • Lead training and practice sessions, ensuring compliance with all safety guidelines and standards.
  • Perform specific coaching and instructional responsibilities during athletic events.
  • Attend coach's preparatory meetings and implement strategies discussed.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the sport and stay updated with relevant University, Landmark Conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Scout and recruit quality student-athletes under the guidance of the head coach and coordinate all recruiting activities with the head coach and other departmental personnel.
  • Work closely with the athletic training staff to ensure the safety of all student-athletes.
  • Represent the sports program to various institutional programs and externally to the media, alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Maintain current certification in CPR, First Aid & AED and recertify annually.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Capable of moderate physical activity and displaying a cooperative attitude towards all other sports programs and University functions.
  • Able to develop a positive working relationship with all support offices both within the department and across campus.
  • Able to stand for periods up to 6 hours and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform athletic fundamentals such as running, jumping, kneeling, and bending.
  • Ability to uphold human dignity and respect by recognizing each person's worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others kindly, fairly, and empathetically.
  • Able to respect, support, and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • High school and/or club coaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience coaching jump events is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Years of Experience: At least 1 year of coaching experience is preferred.
