Assistant Coach, Girls Varsity Basketball - Athletics

Punahou Athletics plays an integral role in the student experience, encouraging student‑athletes to be their best, the best team player, and to define winning through teamwork. The Athletics Department supports over 120 teams in more than 30 sports, and Punahou’s athletic program has been recognized as the top high school program in the country by Sports Illustrated. Punahou School is actively recruiting an Assistant Coach for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach with organizing the needs of the sport within the Athletic Program
- Conduct practices
- Motivate students
- Instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques
Qualifications
- Previous experience coaching a basketball team in an educational setting
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Physical ability to demonstrate positions usual to the sport
- Positive and effective track record of coaching performance
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- One (1) year of positive and effective experience with a track record of leadership in a successful interscholastic program as a coach, or other related athletic experience
- Background in teaching preferred, with experience working with adolescents
- Knowledge of the value of athletics and competition at the intermediate and high school level
- Substantial knowledge of the game as demonstrated through the development of comprehensive practice plans, offensive and defensive schemes, implementation of off‑season expectations for student athletes, and implementation of effective and contemporary teaching/coaching practices
Pay
Stipend range: $1,560 – $3,450 for the 3‑month winter season. Pay for selected candidates will be determined by knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Schedule
Work year: 3 months (Winter Season) for the 2026‑2027 school year. Hours: Monday‑Friday late afternoons and weekends.
