Assistant Coach
About the Role
The Assistant Coach supports the planning, development, and administration of all phases of the UCLA Men's Water Polo program. Responsibilities include assisting with practice planning, game preparation, recruiting, administrative tasks, and special projects. The role requires adherence to policies set by the University of California System, UCLA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), the respective conference, and the NCAA.
Responsibilities
- Assist in practice planning and game preparation.
- Support recruiting, developing, and training elite collegiate athletes.
- Manage fiscal and budgetary tasks.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
- Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the program.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, administrators, peers, and the public.
- Adhere to UCLA’s policies on fiscal responsibility, ethical conduct, and compliance.
- Travel for team competitions and activities as needed (20% travel required).
Requirements
- 3–5 years of coaching experience at the Division I level (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferred).
- Valid California noncommercial Class C driver’s license (required).
- Current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED use (required within 30 days of hire).
- Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and a proven record of compliance.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Special Conditions for Employment
- Satisfactory background check (including Live Scan) required prior to employment.
- Driving record subject to California DMV "Pull Notice System."
- Designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA; must sign a statement acknowledging this requirement.
Pay
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors such as budget, experience, skills, education, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are uncommon.
