About the role

The Assistant Civil Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of sectors, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities.

The role involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the civil design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for projects such as power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, governmental, and military facilities.
  • Design civil components based on project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
  • Apply basic knowledge of civil engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Compile studies and reports.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using multiple CAD-related software.
  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for various facility designs.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment with demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Skills

  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills in AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and civil analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, restrictions, or need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

This position is full-time, with up to 10% travel required.
