About the role
The City of Pittsburgh Department of Law seeks a Labor and Employment Attorney to advise, counsel, and represent the City in various legal matters related to its diverse workforce.
Responsibilities
- Represent the City in collective bargaining negotiations, grievance administration, labor arbitrations, and PLRB proceedings.
- Provide guidance and representation to the City with respect to non-union employee management.
- Handle a diverse range of administrative proceedings and litigation, including litigation at trial and in appellate matters.
- Provide strategic legal advice to City departments and officials on risk mitigation, policy development, and compliance with local, state, and federal law.
Requirements
- At least five (5) years of full-time, paid legal experience in labor and employment law, with management side experience preferred.
- A Juris Doctorate Degree and an active Pennsylvania license on the start date.
- Experience in research, legal memoranda, correspondence, pleadings, motions, petitions, and discovery.
- Ability to conduct discovery, participate in hearings, make motions, and argue cases.
- Knowledge of legal precedents and analysis of case outcomes.
- Experience in settlement negotiations.
Qualifications
- Must become a resident of the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment.
- Must submit official transcripts verifying post-secondary education.
- Must pass a medical examination prior to start date.
