About the role

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Law seeks a Labor and Employment Attorney to advise, counsel, and represent the City in various legal matters related to its diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the City in collective bargaining negotiations, grievance administration, labor arbitrations, and PLRB proceedings.
  • Provide guidance and representation to the City with respect to non-union employee management.
  • Handle a diverse range of administrative proceedings and litigation, including litigation at trial and in appellate matters.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to City departments and officials on risk mitigation, policy development, and compliance with local, state, and federal law.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of full-time, paid legal experience in labor and employment law, with management side experience preferred.
  • A Juris Doctorate Degree and an active Pennsylvania license on the start date.
  • Experience in research, legal memoranda, correspondence, pleadings, motions, petitions, and discovery.
  • Ability to conduct discovery, participate in hearings, make motions, and argue cases.
  • Knowledge of legal precedents and analysis of case outcomes.
  • Experience in settlement negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Must become a resident of the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment.
  • Must submit official transcripts verifying post-secondary education.
  • Must pass a medical examination prior to start date.
