About the role

Responsibilities
- Works in the Classroom:
- Collaborates and communicates with parents, teachers, administration, and other employees.
- Attends and participates in all meetings.
- Develops, implements, and approves daily curriculum.
- Fosters a nurturing atmosphere.
- Assures that a method of positive discipline is always used.
- Maintains a safe, stable, and loving environment.
- Completes progress reports for each child.
- Makes sure the classroom is clean; the materials are stocked.
- Observes children to pick up on any developmental, emotional, or behavioral needs.
- Communicates with and brainstorm ideas with teachers and administration.
- Implements innovative ideas into the classrooms to improve the lives of the children we serve.
- Completes referrals when needed.
- Aids staff with the referral process.
- Supervises volunteers, interns, and specialists in the classroom.
- Supports the Director:
- Manages the operation of the center in the Director’s absence.
- Hires, onboards, develops, and supervises staff.
- Ensures a safe and nurturing environment for all children and staff.
- Ensures the facility is safe and well-stocked, including checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards, and ensuring the facility is always clean, orderly, and in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Provides orientation for new employees, volunteers, and interns.
- Manages daily classroom staffing and coverage needs.
- Ensures that child ratios are always met.
- Supervises, evaluates, and acts as a resource for subordinates.
- Completes employee observations and reviews, as delegated.
- Supports teachers in the program in developing and implementing core and enrichment curriculum.
- Ensures that lesson plans incorporate various learning styles and developmental needs, including language, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
- Supports, empowers, and assists others in becoming better educators.
- Be a resource to day care staff. Help them resolve issues that may arise.
- Conducts and documents monthly staff meetings and arranges in-service training.
- Addresses parent concerns and oversees regular communication from teachers regarding their child’s progress.
- Works with the director to solicit feedback about the program from families and staff on an ongoing basis, and develops a program improvement plan based on such results.
- Performs other duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
- Education Requirements: Associate’s degree, pursuing Director I certification.
- Work Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a supervisory role or as a lead teacher and committed to the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Other Qualifications: Possess a high standard of personal integrity, excellent management, organizational, and communication skills, must be able to multi-task, ServSafe Certified.
