About the Role
The Non-Propulsion Electronics Systems (NPES) Assistant Chief Test Engineer (ACTE) oversees day-to-day NPES test activities and reports directly to the Chief Test Engineer (CTE). Responsibilities vary by project but include leadership, coordination, and technical oversight of testing operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the CTE with management of project schedules.
- Oversee project cost and performance data.
- Supervise the daily tasking of hourly Electronics Technicians and salaried Test Engineers assigned to their project.
- Report testing status and concerns to the CTE.
- Supervise and conduct effective shift turnovers.
- Interface with trades, engineering, ships management, and government personnel to coordinate and accomplish test program activities.
- Verify re-entry control retest requirements are properly identified and accomplished as required.
- Document and track problems encountered during testing.
- Perform test procedure review for completeness and accuracy.
- Directly supervise or lead tests in their area of expertise.
- Actively support process improvement initiatives.
- Supervise/control test activities during sea trials.
- Develop and mentor Test Engineers to create a strong interchangeable team.
- Provide input to the CTE for personnel performance reviews.
- Manage and oversee system tag-outs to ensure safety of personnel and equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Experience with the implementation of hazardous energy tag-out controls (lockout-tagout).
- Experience with and ability to execute to NAVSEA 0905-485-6010 requirements (previous Naval experience accepted in lieu of 6010 quals).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems Operation and Maintenance.
- Previous supervisory experience in the shipyard or Navy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of four years of experience with the operation, maintenance, and/or testing of Navigation, SONAR, Combat, Local Area Networks, Ship Control, Towed Array Systems, Integrated Communication System, Circuit D, ICCP, and various auxiliary systems.
- Experience with an NPES dockside test program or equivalent related experience in a test or ships management discipline.
- Current qualification as a Shift Test Director, or equivalent experience.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or management.
Skills

- Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate highly effective communication skills.
- Strong task management and technical abilities to coordinate and direct integrated test evolutions.
- Proficiency with EWP, Cornerstone LMS, Microsoft Office, ITP, ATA, Lotus Notes, and Outlook.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication.
- Knowledge of planning, construction key events, and/or test activities.
- Ability to access all areas of the ship, including confined spaces and radiological areas.
