Assistant Center Director, Early Learning

The Assistant Center Director, Early Learning provides day-to-day supervision and management of a childcare site, planning and implementing a safe and quality childcare program through direct collaboration with employees, participants, and parents. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position at our Auburn location with shifts within our operating hours of Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Ensure planning and implementation of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
- Oversee the quality and completion of all program plans, including lesson, behavior, and event plans.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate childcare site staff and volunteers, including professional development planning.
- Conduct staff meetings and organize trainings.
- Maintain required staff/child ratios.
- Communicate professionally and confidentially with parents/guardians, including newsletters, individual parent communication, and parent/teacher conferences.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain professional relationships with families, facility personnel, and the community; may plan and conduct parent events.
- Maintain required records according to YMCA and DSHS standards (e.g., attendance, immunization, registration, accident reports, discipline records, fire evacuation records).
- Recruit new enrollments and ensure site supplies are maintained and purchased as necessary.
- May assist with developing and monitoring department budgets.
- Ensure developmentally appropriate classrooms, including appearance, décor, and cleanliness of the site.
- May supervise a group of children to ensure their health, safety, and positive experience.
- May prepare and serve snacks.
- Recruit and support members of the Parent Advisory Group.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
This job operates in a licensed childcare center. The physical demands include regular computer use, frequent sitting and reaching, occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds, and the ability to move around the work environment. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision. The noise level is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Qualifications
- 21 years of age or older.
- Written proof of education, including a current CDA or minimum college credits as required by DEL (e.g., 45 credits in Early Childhood Education).
- Two years or more of experience working with children kindergarten aged and younger.
- Experience overseeing, planning, and implementing group activities.
- Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring, and Passion for Excellence.
- Pre-employment TB test and MMR vaccinations required (provided at no cost).
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with diverse populations (e.g., language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation).
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English may be helpful.

Pay
Hiring range: $32.00 - $34.00 per hour, dependent on experience.
