Assistant Case Manager

About the Role

As an instructional and support service specialist, the teacher provides ongoing counsel and evaluation in curriculum activities and methodological techniques at both the individual and system level. The role involves collaborating with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.

Responsibilities

• Serve on the diagnostic educational evaluation team to consider placement or program changes for children requiring special education, ensuring parental involvement.
• Develop assigned students' educational curriculum in conjunction with classroom staff and the clinical team.
• Participate in and/or coordinate meetings (IEP, Department, and School) to convey or gather required information.
• Prepare written materials (e.g., IEPs) to document students' progress and ensure goals and objectives are met.
• Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals (e.g., behavioral, motor development, communication skills, academic needs, vocational abilities) and provide feedback to students, parents, administration, and supervisors.
• Evaluate students' progress and update programming in accordance with written IEPs, selecting appropriate methods and materials for instruction.
• Perform daily data collection and cumulative percentage recordings of each student's progress.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all service documents and plans related to assigned clients and implement services as outlined.
• Teach appropriate skills and involve individuals in meaningful and valued activities.
• Obtain knowledge of individuals' desired outcomes and integrate them into daily activities.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all personal information concerning individuals supported.
• Know, advocate for, and respect the rights of students supported.
• Exhibit professional behavior toward students, families, coworkers, school personnel, and supervisors.
• Adhere to confidentiality guidelines, NSSA policies, and procedures.
• Comply with federal and state special education regulations.
• Maintain all certifications and licensing necessary for employment.

Work Environment

The position requires visual, manual, communicative, and analytic abilities within a team setting. Work is performed in multiple settings, and the ability to travel independently in the community may be required up to 25% of the time. Professionalism in dress and conduct is expected, as the role represents the organization in various forums.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or hold at least 50 pounds or more.
• Bending, lifting, and the ability to stand for at least eight hours at a time.
• Ability to assist individuals with activities of daily living, including toileting and other self-help skills.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb.

Responsible for reporting on time daily (Monday through Friday) to work location(s) during operating hours over a 12-month period, unless otherwise specified by a supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
• Valid NYS Driver's License, acceptable driving history, and proof of auto insurance as required.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience preferred.
• New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disabilities is a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis principles.
• Basic language, written, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
• Ability and willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior.
• Ability and willingness to assist individuals in activities of daily living, including toileting and other self-help skills.
