Assistant Boys Basketball Coach

About the Role

To instruct all students in the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport or activity, providing an atmosphere for successful individual development through monitoring, evaluating, and reinforcing.

Responsibilities

• Develop drill and practice activities that teach and enhance individual/team skill development.
• Develop and maintain an inventory list of equipment; prepare and implement a schedule for checking out, maintaining, and checking in equipment.
• Plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations.
• Develop a supervision plan that ensures the safety and welfare of students at all times (locker room, trips, practices, etc.).
• Maintain confidentiality about students and others.
• Present a professional appearance and serve as an effective communicator with players, parents, supervisors, peers, and spectators.
• Model and demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop basic skills or physical condition.
• Observe, diagnose, and prescribe appropriate remediation activities during practice and game conditions for players and team.
• Apply the developmental stages of each point of the game to the needs and ability levels of the team/players.
• Assimilate innovations and adapt to changes when applicable.
• Establish a fundamental philosophy for the activity or sport and instruct assistants in techniques necessary to meet philosophy objectives.
• Analyze and evaluate sports effectiveness.
• Provide training rules and expectations, ensuring they are taught to each participant.
• Assist in the scheduling of the activity or sport.
• Document the state and district's requirements for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Be involved in the hiring of assistant coaches directly under your supervision and provide input at other levels.
• Develop and follow a budget in line with district's guidelines and expectations.
• Manage public relations with all audiences.
• Select, assign duties and responsibilities, and monitor assistants.
• Support the philosophies of Park County School District #6.
• Assist in making recommendations/hiring of Middle School level coaches.
• Supervise students on out-of-town activities, which may involve overnight stays.

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit on a bus for extended periods of travel.
• Ability to carry and/or provide aid to an injured player.
• Ability to coach at a high intensity level during practices and games.
• Ability to move quickly from drill to drill with a definite direction and focus.
• Ability to remove an injured player from the court.

Qualifications

• Possess all certificates required for the State of Wyoming.
• Possess current CPR certification.
• Possess current First Aid certification.
• Fundamental knowledge of basketball.
• Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries course.
• Ability to select from a variety of instruction methods to teach activity objectives.

Schedule

Season runs October - March.
