About the Role
The Assistant Clinician works directly with residential or day habilitation staff under the supervision of the Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS), Manager, and Coordinator. They collaborate with the team to assess and address the holistic needs of each person supported, including strengths, preferences, behavioral, psychiatric, social, vocational, health, nutritional, and mobility needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist the BIS, RN, or Manager/Coordinator in conducting assessments and observations.
- Develop goals and outcomes for the Comprehensive Functional Assessment (CFA) or Life Plan based on the interests and needs of the person supported.
- Review data for accurate and consistent implementation, ensuring accuracy of daily and monthly progress reports and making revisions as needed.
- Work with the interdisciplinary team to design effective data collection systems to monitor and measure progress.
- Ensure all programming is implemented consistently and in accordance with agency policy.
- Monitor the completion of habilitation-related paperwork and ensure reports are shared with appropriate service providers.
- Work with the BIS and RN to ensure interventions receive proper approval (e.g., informed consent, human rights) prior to implementation.
- Develop group curricula and ensure the implementation of individual and group programming.
- Assist with staff training to ensure clinical interventions are understood, properly implemented, and consistently applied.
- Facilitate case conferences (CFA/Life Plan meetings) and function as a member of the interdisciplinary team, including collecting and synthesizing reports.
- Review the CFA/Life Plan with the IDT, develop staff action plans, and train staff on goals, outcomes, and supports.
- Participate in weekly IDT meetings and serve as a resource to other programs or committees (e.g., Human Rights Committee, Incident Review Committee).
- Attend team meetings for individuals supported by other service providers and support team-building efforts.
- Provide clinical information to direct support staff while maintaining confidentiality standards.
- Assist the IDT in initiating referrals for necessary consultations and evaluations.
- Ensure individuals receive appropriate mental and physical health care and act as a resource to the team.
- Facilitate coordination of individual treatment between residence and day habilitation programs.
- Visit individuals at their day/vocational programs and attend case conferences or special IDT meetings as needed.
- Maintain habilitation records in accordance with OPWDD and agency policy.
- Address programmatic and individual clinical issues with a solution-oriented approach.
- Meet regularly with supervisors (Residential Manager/Coordinator, BIS, RN) and come prepared with an agenda.
- Function in a direct service professional capacity under the direction of the Residential Manager, Operations Coordinator, BIS, and RN.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related Human Services field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in an OPWDD-related field, preferably in a residential, health, or treatment-related setting.
- Demonstrated competency in written, verbal, and computational skills to document records in accordance with program standards.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate residence needs and team meetings.
