Assistant Batcher - 3rd shift

About the role

The Assistant Batcher works under the direction of the Processing Supervisor to ensure all ingredients are staged at the cook deck in advance of the batching process. This role involves accurately weighing or measuring ingredients per formulation, utilizing pump-up stations and cut tanks for high-usage concentrates.

The starting hourly rate is $20.88/hr. 2nd shift is eligible for a $0.35/hr shift differential, and 3rd shift is eligible for a $0.45/hr shift differential. Medical insurance is offered through Local Union 152.

Responsibilities

• Follow the batching schedule and adjust for “add-ons.”
• Use the cook deck inventory report to locate and stage all required ingredients at the designated cook deck in advance of the batching process.
• Work with the batcher to determine which ingredients will be pumped, pulled from cut tanks, or added directly to the batch tanks from the cook deck platform.
• Follow proper silo rotation unless directed otherwise.
• Complete silo hookups in advance of the batching process and pull silo samples for testing.
• Accurately weigh or measure all ingredients to be pumped up.
• Perform mathematical conversions of volume to weight and weight to volume as required.
• Calculate the amount and type of bulk concentrates or flavors required and make effective use of the cut tanks.
• Determine blending requirements and execute the blend plan.
• Adhere to the organic protocol when batching organic products.
• Complete all paperwork in a timely, accurate, complete, and legible manner, including lot numbers used for each formula work order.
• Communicate any ingredient availability or quality issues immediately to the Processing Supervisor.
• Properly clean and seal all ingredient containers prior to returning them to storage.
• Demonstrate proper forklift operation, following all safety rules.
• Maintain a clean work area, including tanks, floor, pumps, hoses, utensils, and tools, following Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized cooler and dry ingredient storage area with no open or soiled containers.
• Adhere to all food safety policies and procedures, including prevention of cross-contamination and product adulteration.
• Train to back up the Batcher position.
• Perform taste testing as needed, up to a couple of ounces per test.
• Perform all tasks with a Safety/Food Safety-first mindset.
• Complete any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Forklift certification.
• Six months of manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency in mathematics.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

• Frequent: Ability to talk and hear; stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and seasonal temperature fluctuations.
• Occasional: Squatting, kneeling, reaching above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask and perform confined entry using the LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.
• Vision: Ability to use close and distance vision, color, and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment.
• Hearing: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Exposure to noise from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines, and exhaust fans.

Pay

$20.88/hr starting rate. Shift differentials: +$0.35/hr for 2nd shift, +$0.45/hr for 3rd shift.
