Assistant Band Director
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach Music courses in the Music Department where his/her certification applies.
- Recruit, audition, select and train musicians for the Wilberforce University Marching and Concert Band.
- Support the goals and objectives of the Music Department.
- Support the primary goals of the University (teaching, research, and community).
- To meet the National Association of Music Accreditation requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Assist with conducting rehearsals and performances for university band ensembles.
- Provide instruction in music, music performance, musicianship, marching techniques, concert and ensemble development.
- Teach and mentor student musicians in individual and group settings.
- Aid in sectionals, clinics, workshops, and leadership development programs.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to support musical growth.
- Aid in planning, organizing, and administering all aspects of the band program.
- Aid in music library management, inventory control, and equipment maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in Music, Music Education, or Ph. D. in Music
