Assistant Auditor 1

We are seeking accounting professionals in or near Coshocton County to join our team as external financial auditors. Auditors ensure taxpayer dollars are used lawfully by public entities, working in small teams to perform financial statement and administrative controls testing for government clients such as cities, villages, and schools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop working knowledge of auditing techniques, Ohio State government, professional auditing standards, and State fiscal practices.
  • Serve as a contributing member of an audit team, completing assigned duties of limited scope and communicating with the team leader about proper audit methods.
  • Receive controlled assignments of increasing difficulty and responsibility.
  • Conduct background research of agencies being audited, including examination of relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Travel to audit site locations to obtain audit evidence and perform fieldwork, including:
    • Visual examination of records and preparation/organization of workpapers showing audit results.
    • Gathering, interpreting, compiling, and analyzing data pertinent to audits.
  • Review data and other information relevant to the audit.
  • Participate in interviews of agency staff to elicit information.
  • Help draft audit comments and prepare preliminary drafts of audit findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Accounting preferred), or
  • Successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution beyond high school level, or
  • At least three years’ experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) preferred.
  • Travel to audit site work locations is required.

  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • CPA and governmental accounting experience are a plus.

Compensation: $30.83/hour.

Schedule: Full-time.
