Responsibilities
- Performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials under limited supervision.
- Assigned to the Securities Section as Assistant Attorney General.
- Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in the investigative stages of securities and money services cases.
- Makes recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution of assigned cases following investigation.
- Prepares pleadings related to assigned cases.
- Successfully negotiates assigned cases.
- Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in the trial or hearing and appellate phases of assigned cases.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate Degree and at least 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Must be a member and in good standing with the SC Bar.
- Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.
- Position may require travel to court and transport files; some travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina.
- Knowledge of general case, statutory, and common law.
- Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws in court decisions.
- Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal instruments.
- Ability to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically.
- Ability to plan and direct the activities of a legal staff.
