Job Responsibilities
- Reviews applications, calendars returns, and prepares pleadings and responses.
- Represents the State at court hearings and appeals.
- Fills and serves appeals on behalf of the State.
- Prepares petitions, returns, and briefs for filing with appellate courts.
- Attends oral arguments.
- Prepares case rosters and forwards witness letters and subpoenas.
- Coordinates transportation of post-conviction relief applicants.
- Identifies witnesses needed for PCR actions.
- Mails rosters at least four weeks before the term.
- Processes incoming mail and updates attorney and legal assistant calendars.
- Provides advice and assistance to Solicitors, attorneys, and law enforcement entities.
- Maintains accurate calendars of all due dates.
- Responds to telephone calls by the end of each day.
- Maintains “shake-proof” files and closes all assigned files.
Requirements
- J.D. Degree
- Member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar
- Satisfies Rule 403 requirements
- Some overnight travel required
- Above-average understanding of computers, software, and technology
- Well-organized with independent work ability
- Proficient in legal research and writing
- Excellent oral advocacy skills
- Good computer skills and knowledge of Word
- Ability to transport files
