About the Role

The Assistant Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the University's Athletic programs. This role is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries within the University's comprehensive sports medicine program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the overall supervision of a Division I Sports Medicine program (60%):
  • Prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries.
  • Providing counseling and education to student athletes.
  • Collaborate with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes.
• Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete for assigned sports programs (30%).
• Work with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to meet individual athlete needs for assigned sports programs.
• Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff and students for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions for assigned sports programs.
• Serve as secondary site coordinator for Drug Free Sports (drug testing) (10%).
• Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent number of years of professional experience with a minimum of one (1) year of collegiate athletic experience or commensurate experience.
• Certified by the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and license issued by the Department of Health.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification required upon hire.
• Demonstrated high degree of interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency or diversity.
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
• A minimum of fifteen (15) nights per year of travel is required for team competition.
• Complete the Hepatitis B shot series within 1 month of hire, provide documentation of prior immunization, or complete a waiver of inoculation.
• Washington State Driver's License required within 30 days of employment.
• Must maintain a thorough knowledge of NCAA and institutional rules, regulations, and policies.
• Support and comply with all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big Sky Conference, and other governing bodies.
• Report any suspected violations of rules compliance promptly to the Athletic Director, Compliance Coordinator, or designee.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of collegiate athletic training experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of collegiate athletic training experience at the NCAA Division I level.

Pay

$48,005 - $52,426.00 annually. Starting salary within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
