Assistant/Associate Professor (Plant & Soil Sciences)

Prairie View A&M University, a member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Plant and Soil Sciences within the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR). The successful candidate will establish an innovative, externally funded research program addressing critical challenges in agricultural productivity, environmental resilience, and food security in Texas and beyond. Preference will be given to candidates whose work complements existing strengths in plant, soil, and environmental sciences, as well as natural resources research.

A Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University will not cover this fee. Additionally, a moratorium on new H-1B filings in Texas, effective January 27, 2026, may impact employment eligibility for candidates requiring visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Plant and Soil Sciences and Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students and work with student organizations.
• Assist with recruitment into the undergraduate agriculture degree program and the graduate program in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
• Conduct research using current and emerging technologies in areas such as:
  • Soil fertility and sustainable nutrient management in forage systems.
  • Physiological, genetic, molecular, or developmental mechanisms influencing plant productivity, quality, and adaptation.
  • Physical, chemical, and biological processes affecting soil health and long-term agricultural productivity.
• Publish research results in refereed journals.
• Seek and acquire externally funded grants and contracts for research projects.
• Engage in service activities and professional development with colleagues, the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Plant & Soil Sciences, Agronomy, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field.
• At least 1-2 years of experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
