Assistant/Associate Professor, Pediatric Neurosurgery - Pediatric Surgery, McGovern Medical School

About the role

The Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is seeking a full-time faculty member. Candidates would be appointed to the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on experience and academic productivity, in the Department of Pediatric Surgery, with a joint appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery. Under the direction of Professor and Chief Manish N. Shah, you will work primarily in the Pediatric Neurosurgery unit and inpatient/outpatient clinic setting, with rotation to the Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital OR, inpatient floor, Emergency Room, and UTP outpatient clinics and coverage for The Woman's Hospital of Texas (HCA).

Schedule

• 10–12-hour shift coverage that may include early morning and evening shifts, including Saturday and Sunday rotations

Responsibilities

• Evaluate pediatric patients with acute and chronic conditions using strong clinical assessment, triage, and clinical judgment skills
• Provide pre- and post-operative care
• Facilitate daytime consults, procedures, and admissions
• Manage inpatient care, discharge planning, and post-operative follow-up
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care
• Educate fellows, residents, and students
• Provide telephone triage and follow-up for post-operative and emergency department patients
• Participate in educational, quality improvement, and research initiatives, including leading and collaborating on NIH-funded studies

Clinical programs

The pediatric neurosurgery service offers comprehensive clinical programs in neuro-oncology, movement disorders, vascular neurosurgery, epilepsy, craniofacial surgery, and fetal myelomeningocele repair within a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary neuroscience program.

Qualifications

• Texas Medical license or eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License
• Board-certified or board-eligible for the American Board of Neurosurgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery
• Trained at an Accredited American Board of Neurosurgery Residency Program
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service, with the potential to excel in their field and support the mission of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
