Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (Non-tenure), Department of Physical Therapy

About the role

The DPT program at Simmons University is seeking applicants for a full-time Boston-based 12-month contract faculty position to begin on August 1st, 2026. Primary Responsibilities

• Teach courses in-line with their research and clinical expertise.
• Desirable areas are neurological physical therapy, therapeutic modalities, orthotics and prosthetics, and/or assist in systems-based laboratory or tutorials with a preference toward inpatient expertise.
• Potential courses may include Frameworks for Neurological Physical Therapy I and II, Concepts and Skills I and II, Frameworks for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy, and Prosthetics and Orthotics.
• Advise and mentor graduate students.
• Participate in curriculum development.
• Actively serve the Simmons community.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated commitment to professional, clinical, and academic excellence.
• Previous teaching at the graduate level is preferable; applicants seeking to begin a career in higher education should also consider this opportunity.
• A terminal academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, ScD, etc.) is preferred; A doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT) or a related field is required;
• Active, unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in any United States jurisdiction;
• Evidence of excellence in professional practice (ABPTS specialty certification is desirable) and a high potential for excellence in teaching and service;
• At least 5 years of applicable clinical experience for Assistant Professor of Practice;
• At least 10 years of applicable clinical experience for Associate Professor of Practice;
• Physical therapy teaching experience preferred;
• Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the university community.
