Tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, beginning August 1, 2027. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in statistics, operations research, industrial and systems engineering, mathematics, or applied mathematics by the start date.

About the Role

The successful candidate will primarily support the department's new data and decision analytics major, which emphasizes coursework and scholarship in statistics, operations research, probability, modeling, and simulation.

Faculty members teach a 3-2 course load and have opportunities to participate in an internally funded summer research program with undergraduate students, develop on-campus and study-away MayX courses, and interact with internationally renowned mathematicians through the Clanton Lecture Series.

The Department of Mathematics offers majors in applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics-economics, and data and decision analytics, and supports the university's data analytics minor.

• Demonstrate potential for superior teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students both formally and informally.
• Develop and maintain a strong program of scholarly and professional activity aligned with the data and decision analytics major.
• Contribute to effective institutional service.
• Support the university's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, scholarship, and service.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in statistics, operations research, industrial and systems engineering, mathematics, or applied mathematics (required by August 1, 2027).
• Evidence of teaching and scholarship aligned with the data and decision analytics major.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and contribute to Furman's commitment to expanding access and opportunity.
