Fort Valley State University (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Agribusiness and Applied Economics. FVSU is the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia and a comprehensive institution serving over 2,800 students, including graduate students. Located in Fort Valley, Peach County, the university's 1,365-acre campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

About the Role

This is a 12-month position with a 50% teaching and 50% research split appointment in the College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology (CAFST). The successful candidate will provide leadership for the Agribusiness and Economics Program, including recruiting, advising, and mentoring students, as well as fostering internships.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in agribusiness management, agribusiness finance, and/or agribusiness product and food industry marketing.
  • Develop a research program addressing key issues facing agribusinesses and farms in Georgia, with emphasis on marketing and management in the agricultural sector.
  • Engage with industry and stakeholders to enhance the relevance and impact of research and teaching, contributing to the department’s mission of serving agricultural producers, agribusinesses, and rural communities.
  • Obtain and leverage external research support, publish in high-impact journals, and collaborate with the Georgia Agribusiness industry.
  • Participate in state, regional, and national agribusiness conferences.
  • Support unit recruitment efforts and contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Integrate technology, including AI, into the teaching and learning process.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or a related area.
  • Research program related to Agribusiness or agricultural economics in the United States with a strong publications record.
  • Demonstrated record of extramural funding supporting peer-reviewed research publications.
  • Experience with instructional strategies for teaching diverse students.
  • Ability to support, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
  • Proficiency in using new and emerging educational technology tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and communicate research to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic or industry experience beyond the Ph.D.
  • Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to establish working relationships with external constituents in allied agriculture industries.
  • Demonstrated experience in securing external funding and scholarly publication.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to professional meetings or stakeholder engagements, including overnight arrangements.
  • Evenings and weekends may be required for proposal writing or other duties.
  • Primarily indoor, climate-controlled work environment, with occasional trips to the farm.
