Assistant/Associate Professor, Nursing

About the Role

The Department of Allied Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Nursing to teach in our baccalaureate nursing program. This 9.5-month position is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated nurse educator to prepare aspiring nurses for transformative health careers. Our innovative 1+2+1 nursing program, offered in collaboration with St. Peter’s Health Partners, allows students to earn both an Associate of Science (AS) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing in four years—qualifying them to take their RN licensing exam after the third year.

The successful candidate will bring clinical expertise in community or public health nursing; however, candidates with other relevant clinical backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate a record of effective teaching and a commitment to student mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses within the undergraduate nursing curriculum, including upper-level courses such as Community and Public Health Nursing, Professional Role Development, and Nursing Leadership and Management, as well as other nursing courses based on program needs and the candidate's expertise.
• Evaluate student performance in assigned courses, provide timely feedback, and identify student learning deficiencies.
• Perform student advisement and academic counseling.
• Maintain current knowledge related to nursing education, nursing practice, and clinical procedures.
• Serve as a professional role model for students.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty colleagues to support curriculum planning, assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous program improvement.
• Participate in student recruitment activities, application review, and efforts to promote the program to the external community.
• Contribute to service to the department, college, and profession.
• Other duties assigned by the Program Director, Chair of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, and/or the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Requirements

• Master’s or doctoral degree in nursing.
• Hold a current, unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
• A minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior classroom teaching experience at the collegiate level, or experience serving as a clinical preceptor for nursing students.
• Familiarity with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) standards and assessment processes.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This position is based in Albany, NY, and requires consistent, in-person collaboration and/or interaction with our community. All work must be performed full-time on-site. Standard work hours are from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
