This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track teaching faculty position with an anticipated start date of January 2027.

About the Role

The Assistant/Associate Professor-in-Residence will teach in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, conduct research activities consistent with accreditation expectations, and mentor student capstone projects. The primary teaching responsibility is contemporary neurological physical therapy. The successful candidate will meet University criteria related to teaching and service and adhere to UNLV Top Tier Initiatives related to teaching and mentoring.

The Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the School of Integrated Health Sciences, alongside the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences, Department of Occupational Therapy, and the Department of Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences. The program is fully accredited through CAPTE and graduated its first class of DPT students in 2006, with an overall NPTE pass rate of 100%.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in contemporary neurological physical therapy at the graduate level.
  • Conduct research activities aligned with accreditation expectations.
  • Mentor student capstone projects.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, contributing to a respectful, positive work environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and demonstrate flexibility in problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Licensed physical therapist with eligibility for licensure by the Nevada State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
  • Earned terminal degree (PhD, DSc, or EdD) from a regionally accredited college or university, or a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree with board-certified clinical specialization. A DPT with other advanced training in a related field (e.g., MS in clinical investigation) will also be considered.
  • Five years of contemporary clinical experience in neurological physical therapy.
  • Teaching experience in neurological physical therapy at the graduate level.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, develop, and apply new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring student service-learning and research projects.
  • Experience in curricular/program development and academic assessment.

Pay

Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
