Assistant/Associate Professor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program - 2 positions to be filled

About the Role

The Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for two full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, currently in pre-accreditation status. These are core faculty appointments with responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, advisement, and service, with particular emphasis on building and sustaining an externally funded research program.

Successful candidates will contribute to didactic and clinical instruction across the DPT curriculum while developing an independent research agenda. The university provides dedicated research space, competitive startup funds, and protected time for research. Appointments may begin as early as Fall 2026.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is housed in Conroe, Texas, on SHSU’s Medical and Health Professions Campus and will matriculate students in August 2027. The campus features an 80,000-square-foot Health Professions Building, opened in February 2026, which also houses the MS in Athletic Training, MS in Dietetics, MS in Physician Assistant Studies, and SHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
• Contribute to didactic and clinical instruction across the DPT curriculum.
• Engage in scholarship, advisement, and service activities.
• Mentor students in research.
• Collaborate in interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Participate in professional organizations and scientific communities.

Requirements

• Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and an earned academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc, ScD, or equivalent) in Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field.
• Active, unencumbered PT license in any U.S. jurisdiction and compliance with Texas practice act.
• Evidence of research experience and scholarly productivity with potential for external funding.
• Established record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals.
• Post-doctoral research experience.
• Federal funding experience (NIH, NSF, CDC, or equivalent) or strong potential for securing external funding.
• Experience mentoring students in research.
• Teaching experience in higher education, preferably in the health sciences.
• Familiarity with CAPTE accreditation standards and DPT curricular requirements.
• Board certification or clinical specialization relevant to the candidate’s research area.

Conroe, Texas, is located in Montgomery County, approximately 40 miles north of Houston, the 4th largest city in the U.S. The Houston Medical Center, the world’s largest medical complex, is nearby, along with the Medical Center of the North in The Woodlands/Spring area.
