About the role

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences seeks a dynamic scholar, educator, and communicator for a 12-month Assistant/Associate Professor position focusing on diverse wildlife conservation issues. This position is 60% teaching and 40% research at the West Florida Research and Education (WFREC), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), at the University of Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver three to four courses annually, including Wetland Wildlife Ecology, Wildlife of Florida, and Wildlife of Florida Lab.
  • Support both undergraduate and graduate education, including chairing and serving on graduate student committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing with graduate students.
  • Conduct applied research on conservation and management of coastal systems, including wetlands, with an emphasis on the panhandle of Florida.
  • Develop a recognized, externally-funded research program in coastal-related issues that serves the stakeholders of Florida.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues.

Requirements

  • A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Wildlife Ecology or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong teaching and research background.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with scientific, stakeholder, and student audiences.
  • Commitment to UF core values and the mission of the Land-Grant system.

Qualifications

  • Research interests related to applied coastal ecology and wetland wildlife questions.
  • Constructive professional relationships.
  • Ability to procure extramural funding.
