Assistant - Associate - Professor, Chair in Child and Family Health Sciences Department

Purpose of Role: The Department Chair assists the Dean in overseeing College of Nursing faculty to meet the tripartite mission of the college, including teaching, research and creative/scholarly activity, and professional and University service and public outreach. The Department Chair is responsible for oversight of promotion processes, faculty development programs, faculty recruitment and retention, faculty evaluation, faculty personnel actions, faculty governance, and initiatives pertaining to faculty well-being for all campus sites. The Department Chair is a key member of the Dean’s leadership team and will provide strategic insight and assist the Dean in setting college goals. The Department Chair will also foster and maintain positive relationships with College and University leadership and community stakeholders, including OUH and clinical site partners. Critical to the Chairperson’s success will be their ability to develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy for the department that aligns with the University of Oklahoma’s Lead On, University Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dean in overseeing faculty to meet the college’s tripartite mission of teaching, research, and service.
  • Oversee promotion processes, faculty development programs, recruitment, retention, and evaluation.
  • Manage faculty personnel actions, governance, and well-being initiatives across all campus sites.
  • Serve as a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, providing strategic insight for college goals.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with College/University leadership and community stakeholders, including clinical partners.
  • Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategy for the department aligned with the University’s strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or holds a current registered professional nurse (RN) license for the State of Oklahoma.
  • Terminal degree (preferably in Nursing or a health-related field).

Appointment

This is a full-time, 12-month in-person faculty appointment, eligible for Consecutive Term or Tenure-Track at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The role includes a 50% administrative position with faculty appointment aligned to rank and scholarship.

Reporting Structure

The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing.
