Responsibilities
- Develop and implement undergraduate and graduate forestry and forest business programs
- Work with stakeholders to develop applied research to address the educational needs in Alabama and beyond
- Develop and deliver niche technical training and service programs for Regional Extension Agents (REAs), organizations, private sector, and federal agencies of Alabama and beyond
- Secure extramural funding to support programs
- Teach two to three courses per year and mentor graduate students
Qualifications
- A PhD in forestry or a related field at the time employment begins
- Demonstrated interest and capability to deliver science-based information to a variety of audiences
- Excellent written, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work creatively, confidently, and professionally with people from varied educational and cultural backgrounds
- Willingness and ability to work closely as a member of the Extension Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resource team with universities, forest managers, communities, and natural resource technical service providers
- Ability to travel, including a current unrestricted driver's license
Benefits
The position includes a tenure-track, 12-month appointment with 65% Extension and 35% teaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will develop an extramurally funded program to expand education, outreach, and applied research in forest business resources for non-industrial private forest landowners and the forest industry.
Pay
The salary range for this position is not specified, but the successful candidate will be eligible for a Harry E. Murphy Endowed Professorship which provides a modest salary supplement and additional operating funds.
