Assistant/Associate General Counsel

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and works closely with Roswell Park’s Clinical Trials Office and scientific shared resources to support the research mission and advance scientific innovation.

About the role

The Assistant/Associate General Counsel will review and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, including:

• Research-related agreements (clinical trial, subsite/subaward, collaborative research, and sponsored research agreements)
• Production and manufacturing agreements (for investigational cellular therapy products and intermediates, viral and non-viral vectors, and related products)
• Research-related service agreements and procurement contracts (equipment, reagents, supplies, software, and materials used in production/manufacturing)
• Technology transfer (license agreements), commercial collaborations, and other agreements with significant intellectual property implications

The role will also assist with other legal matters to support the clinical and research missions, including regulatory guidance, contract interpretation, and timely legal support to minimize legal risk and exposure.

Requirements

• Must develop and maintain knowledge of relevant FDA regulations, research subject protection regulations, New York laws applicable to public entities and hospitals, and general health and privacy laws
• At least four (4) years of full-time responsible private practice or in-house legal experience required
• Must hold a J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school and be admitted to practice law by the State of New York Bar

Qualifications

Assistant General Counsel

• J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school and admitted to practice law by the State of New York Bar
• One (1) year of full-time private practice or in-house legal experience

Associate General Counsel

• J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school and admitted to practice law by the State of New York Bar
• Four (4) years of full-time responsible private practice or in-house legal experience, including general corporate and/or business-related matters

Note: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should have at least:

• Three (3) years of experience focusing on relevant areas of law and reviewing/negotiating the specified contract types (for Associate General Counsel)
• One (1) year of experience focusing on relevant areas of law and reviewing/negotiating the specified contract types (for Assistant General Counsel)

The title (Assistant/Associate) will be determined based on the selected candidate’s level of experience.

Pay

• Starting annual salary for the Assistant is $115,283
• Starting annual salary for the Associate is $145,685
