Assistant/Associate/Full Teaching Professor in Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a full-time Teaching Faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor. We are seeking a dedicated educator passionate about undergraduate mechanical engineering education, with experience in hands-on, project-based learning and a strong commitment to inclusive teaching practices. This is a non-tenure-track, renewable position, reporting to the Department Chair.

Workload distribution: 80% teaching, 20% leadership and service.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate mechanical engineering courses, including both lecture and laboratory components.
• Participate in service and leadership within the department, college, and Gunnison community.
• Contribute to the creation of a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for all students.
• Engage in experiential and project-based teaching, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications

For Assistant Teaching Professor:

• Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• OR Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 3+ years of industry experience or 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level.

For Associate Teaching Professor:

• Must meet Assistant Teaching Professor criteria, plus an additional six years of higher-education teaching experience.

For Full Teaching Professor:

• Must meet Associate Teaching Professor criteria, plus an additional three years of higher-education teaching experience.
• Demonstrated record of distinction and academic leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing new coursework or industry partnerships.
• Experience teaching lab-based and lecture courses.
• Proven success in community engagement or outreach programs.
• Familiarity with evidence-based pedagogical methods.

Pay

• Assistant Teaching Professor: $95,000 – $103,000
• Associate Teaching Professor: $106,000 – $114,000
• Teaching Professor: $118,000 – $130,000
