Assistant / Associate / Full Professor of Instruction – Mechanical Engineering Design
Position Information
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a full-time, Academic Professional Track instructional faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Instruction. This teaching-focused position will begin in the Fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will play a central instructional role in the mechanical engineering design curriculum, serving as the primary instructor for first-year mechanical engineering design experience and the senior-level mechanical engineering capstone design course. The role requires strong expertise in mechanical design, at least 10 years of industry experience is preferred, and demonstrable expertise with top-tier 3D modeling and simulation software, preferably SolidWorks (other 3DEXPERIENCE tools such as CATIA, or top-tier modelers such as Creo, NX, Inventor, Fusion 360 also acceptable).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as primary instructor for first-year mechanical engineering design courses
- Serve as instructor and coordinator for senior-level Mechanical Engineering Capstone Design
- Mentor and supervise student design teams
- Integrate industry-relevant design practices into coursework
- Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation activities
- Advise and mentor students from varied backgrounds
Required Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline by start date
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design
- Prior industry experience involving engineering design efforts
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and CATIA
- Strong commitment to teaching excellence
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous university-level teaching experience in engineering design
- Experience mentoring capstone design teams
- Familiarity with manufacturing and prototyping methods
- Experience with active or project-based learning methodologies
