Job Description
The School of Accountancy in the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting, beginning August 8, 2027.
Position Responsibilities
- Teach two courses per semester (four courses per academic year) in the School of Accountancy at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with courses offered in in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
- Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, continuous improvement, and the advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
- Incorporate applied and experiential learning into course design and develop meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the accounting profession and broader business community through applied projects, case studies, employer engagement, internships, professional organizations, and other experiential learning activities.
- Develop and maintain an active and sustainable research program consistent with AACSB Scholarly Academic (SA) expectations and the requirements for tenure and promotion at the Barton School of Business. The successful candidate will be expected to produce high-quality scholarly research with the potential for publication in respected and leading journals in accounting or closely related fields and to disseminate research through appropriate academic and professional venues.
- Collaborate with faculty colleagues, students, and external partners on scholarly initiatives when appropriate.
- Contribute meaningful service to the School of Accountancy, Barton School of Business, university, profession, and broader community. Service may include participation in committees, accreditation and curriculum assessment, student mentoring, student recruitment and retention initiatives, professional organizations, employer partnerships, advisory activities, community outreach, and other activities that advance the mission of the School and Barton School.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D., D.B.A., or equivalent terminal degree) in Accounting or a closely related field.
- Strong written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree completed or in progress at an AACSB-accredited institution.
- Professional certification, such as a CPA, and/or significant professional accounting experience.
- Record of scholarly publications or demonstrated potential for sustained scholarly productivity.
- Experience incorporating emerging technologies, analytics, artificial intelligence, or related innovations into accounting education or research.
- Potential to pursue externally funded or industry-supported research.
- Experience with applied learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, or meaningful engagement with the accounting profession.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor students and contribute to student success.
