About the role
The full-time employee of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine serves as a member of their Department, works with any Divisions within the Department, and has academic, curricular, clinical, patient care, and community service experience. The role includes opportunities for participation in administration and scholarly activity.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the instruction of medical students within the college through lecture, small group experiences (problem and case-based learning).
- Precept medical students within the clinical setting, by giving formal and informal clinical instruction and supervision.
- Precept students of other colleges or graduate programs.
- Participate in graduate medical education as it correlates with the college.
- MatureCare
- Provide direct medical care to patients of MatureCare that is patient centered and team oriented and bedside teaching to osteopathic medical students.
- Develop and maintain a financially viable clinic practice that is conducted in an ethical, patient centered practice in accord with generally accepted standards of care.
- Provide medical direction and oversight in facility-based care.
- Participate in and provide information for Quality Improvement initiatives for MatureCare and UNE.
- Participate in on-call coverage including nights and weekends on a shared basis with other practitioners in the same clinical discipline.
- Provide timely, effective and appropriate documentation of medical services.
- Provide formal and informal instruction and supervision for medical students, residents and health professionals.
- Coordinate and monitor patient care rendered by students and residents being supervised.
- Prepare evaluations of residents and students supervised in a thorough and timely manner.
- Participate in community relation efforts to enhance the reputation, visibility and credibility of University Health Care and UNE.
- Understand and comply with OSHA, HIPAA and safety training requirements of UNE as specified in the employee manual.
Qualifications
- Board Certified DO or MD Physician in Family Medicine/Internal Medicine/Geriatrics.
- Comfort with performance and teaching basic skills in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is preferred.
- Curricular and teaching experience in formal and informal teaching, and learner supervision and evaluation (preferred).
- Clinical practice experience of at least 5 years (preferred).
- Experience/expertise in holistic long term care medicine.
- Experience in bedside clinical teaching/precepting (preferred).
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Have or be eligible for Maine licensure to practice.
