About the role

The incumbent is responsible for performing complex laboratory analysis of plasma and plasma products in a GMP laboratory. This includes sample accessioning, sample preparation, reagent preparation, testing, result calculation, and quality control of assays and equipment. The role also supports assay validation, method transfer, reagent and control qualification, and laboratory maintenance activities.

This position performs bioburden and endotoxin testing of in-process product samples and raw materials to support plasma production processes, including process and equipment activities. The Quality Control Sterility & Microbiology department maintains 24/7 staffing to support all production operations. The role may also assist with environmental monitoring of production and testing areas.

Must be comfortable working with infectious material daily, using a biological safety cabinet, and working with a microscope for extended periods. Candidates must be proficient with micropipettes and serological pipettes, making dilutions and serial dilutions, and following SOPs and oral instructions. Strong documentation skills and a willingness to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental monitoring of production and testing areas.
  • Follow SOPs and oral instructions precisely.
  • Maintain precise, legible, and organized documentation.
  • Perform cleaning duties and housekeeping as required.

Requirements

Qualifications

Assistant Level: Associate Degree in a life science field, medical technology, or related curriculum with a minimum of six months of applicable laboratory experience, or a BS/BA degree in a life science field, medical technology, or related curriculum. A background in medical technology/clinical laboratory science and experience in a GLP/GMP laboratory is preferred.

Associate Level: Equivalent to a minimum of two years of college-level biology courses (one year of general biology with lab work and one year of microbiology with lab work). A background in medical technology/clinical laboratory science and experience in a GLP/GMP laboratory is preferred.

Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office and laboratory/manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme cold below 32°C in production areas.
  • Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment required, such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves.
  • Work involves sitting or standing for 2-4 hours per day.
  • Frequent hand movement and precise coordinated movements of fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (maximum lift of 35 lbs).
  • Occasional walking, bending, twisting of neck and waist, and reaching above or below shoulder height.
  • Frequent foot movements.
  • Color perception/discrimination and near vision correctable to 20/30 in one eye and 20/100 in the other.
  • Ability to communicate complex information and ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Performs tasks by following written or oral instructions/procedures.
